Ummm where do I start with this? In this episode, we talked about ghosting; why it happens and the psychological effects. It’s important to note that ghosting has been happening since the beginning of time. But due to our dependence on technology it’s easier to notice when you’ve been ghosted.
So, here’s what we discussed:
What is ghosting?
The practice of ending a personal relationship with somebody by suddenly stopping all communication without explanation.
Psychology today describes it beautifully. “The opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference. Ghosting, for those of you who haven’t yet experienced it, is having someone that you believe cares about you and disappears from contact without any explanation at all. No phone call or email, not even a text.”
Reasons for ghosting
- Situational ghosting: they ghost according to the situation.
1. Job ghosting
2. Mental breakdown ghosting
3. Pre-intimacy ghosting
4. Post intimacy ghosting (PIG)
2. Strategic ghosting
Professional ghosting: they ghost people because that is who they are. They enjoy doing it and it is part of their identity. They need to seek professional help to stop ghosting.
Here’s what I asked:
- Have you been ghosted by a romantic partner? (17:38)
- Have you ghosted a romantic partner or interest before? (26:35)
- Why does ghosting feel so bad? (37:46)
- When do you think it’s appropriate to ghost someone? (41:24)
- How should women deal with ghosting in 2020? (41:24)
